Tapas Menu


Listed below are 13 Tapas (or small exercises) that you can do on the web to explore and expand your knowledge of the Internet and Web 2.0. Staff are encouraged to complete all 13 Tapas on the list by May 29 in order to receive a free USB/MP3 player. Those staff that complete all items by May 15 will also qualify for a drawing to receive a larger prize on Staff Development Day.

Week 1: Introduction
Step 1. Read this blog and find out about the program.

Step 2. Discover a few pointers from lifelong learners and learn how to nurture your own learning process.

Week 2: Blogging and RSS
Step 3. Set up your own blog, add your first post about the lifelong learning tutorial, and email a link to mailto:asimzak@njstatelib.org and mailto:rkeith@njstatelib.org.
Step 4. Learn about RSS feeds and set up you own Bloglines newsreader account.

Week 3: Social Bookmarking and Web 2.0 Applications
Step 5. Learn about tagging and discover Del.icio.us (a social bookmarking site)
Step 6. Explore any site from the Web 2.0 awards list, play with it and write a blog post about your findings.

Week 4: Wikis (sorry, scheduling problems prevent us from adding a podcast) :)
Step 7. Learn about wikis and discover some innovative ways that libraries are using them.
Step 8. Add an entry to the Learning 2.0 SandBox wiki.

Week 5: Digital Photo Sharing and Video
Step 9. Explore Flickr and learn about this popular image hosting site.
Step 10. Discover YouTube and a few sites that allow users to upload and share videos.

Week 6: Podcasts and Downloadable Audio
Step 11. Discover some useful search tools for locating podcasts.

Step 12. Summarize your thoughts about this program on your blog.
